Arsenal Edges Past Liverpool In Super Sunday Clash, Topples Man City

October 9, 2022

Arsenal returned to the summit of the Premier League table following Sunday’s 3-2 win against a faltering Liverpool side at the Emirates Stadium reports Prime Business Africa.

The Gunners were behind Manchester City at the start of the game as the Premier League champions defeated Southampton 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Gabriel Martinelli scored within a minute of action when he finished off a perfect pass from captain Martin Odegaard.

Liverpool restored parity in the 34th minute but the game was halted for some minutes when the Reds suffered an injury setback when Trent Alexander-Arnold copped an injury and had to be replaced by Joe Gomez at half time.

Saka made it 2-1 at the start of the second half when he beat an offside trap to steer home the ball from a Gabriel Martinelli cross.

Odegaard missed a golden opportunity to increase Arsenal’s lead with a weak shot and two minutes later Liverpool supposedly punished that prolifigacy when Diogo Jota found Firmino with a perfectly weighted ball for the Brazilian to slot across Aaron Ramsdale and into the net.

Saka however scored from the spot with 14 minutes left on the clock after Gabriel Jesus was fouled by Thiago Alcantara.

Arsenal will face Leeds United in their next Premier League game while Liverpool have a huge game of immense proportion next week Sunday, October 16, against Manchester City.
