The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday inaugurated the Ekiti State Gubernatorial Screening and Screening Appeal Committees, kicking off the crucial process that will determine the party’s candidate for the 2026 governorship election in the state.
The inauguration, held at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, was performed by the party’s Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru, OON.
He charged committee members to ensure a fair and thorough assessment of all aspirants, stressing that the exercise must strictly comply with the APC Constitution, the 2022 Electoral Act (as amended), and the Nigerian Constitution.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelDuru said the screening marks the first step toward a credible primary election, scheduled for October 27, 2025, and is vital to producing a candidate who can not only represent the party but also win the governorship contest.
“The APC is committed to a seamless primary process in Ekiti State. Proper screening ensures that only aspirants who meet the requirements are cleared to contest,” he stated, pledging full support from the party’s leadership to enable the committees to deliver on their mandate.

Responding on behalf of both committees, Chairman of the Screening Committee, Hon. Abdulrahman Tunji, thanked the National Working Committee for the assignment and promised a transparent process.
He assured party members and the four aspirants of a level playing field, adding that the committees would strictly adhere to the party’s election guidelines and other extant laws.
The Screening Committee is chaired by Hon. Tunji, with Barr. Oghenovo Otemu as Secretary. Other members include Comrade Nasir Kura, Hajia Ramatu Faruq, Alh. Suleiman Tanimu, Engr. Shehu Dange, and Barr. Smart Iheazor. The Screening Appeal Committee is led by Rt. Hon. Surajudeen Adekunbi, with Barr. Bitrus Zulfa as Secretary.
The screening outcome will determine who qualifies to compete for the APC ticket in Ekiti, a state where party unity and candidate selection could significantly influence the 2026 governorship race. A credible process is seen as critical to avoiding internal disputes that might weaken the party’s chances against opposition rivals.
