EXCLUSIVE: Why APC Sacked Buni

Prime Business Africa  reports that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) governors rose from their Abuja meeting on Sunday backing a proposal for the ruling party’s  National Convention to hold on February 26.

Scooped details of  the well-attended meeting  indicated that the governors strongly supported  President Muhammadu Buhari’s insistence on holding the convention in February.

Authoritative sources said the original February 5 date was no longer feasible as the party lost some valuable  time following efforts to resolve the crises rocking it in some states, hence the slight shift to February 26.

Governors Who Kicked Against February Convention

It was gathered that, with the exception of three governors, who surprisingly requested the transmutation of the Caretaker Committee Chairman to substantive status, all other APC governors were in sync with President Buhari’s position on National Convention for February as well as  the zoning arrangement.

Prime Business Africa reports that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Kogi State Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello differed with their counterparts and instead pushed for the transmutation of the current caretaker committee chairman Mai Mala Buni to a substantive national chairman.

APC, Bagudu Confirm Prime Business Africa’s Report On National Convention, Zoning Of Presidency

Sources familiar with what transpired at the APC  governors’ Sunday make-or-mar meeting told Prime Business Africa that the earlier zoning arrangement that made for swapping all leadership positions between the North and the South was upheld.

Prime Business Africa was the first to report that the governors and the APC, in agreement with President Buhari, had resolved to zone the presidency to the south while the chairmanship position goes back to the North.  The arrangement, according to the exclusive report, was to be a flipping of the  positions as of the tenure of the last substantive chairman Adams Oshiomhole.

A small committee led by the  caretaker committee chairman, Buni,  and the Progressives Governors Forum  Chair, Atiku Bagudu, was set up to  fine-tune the zoning arrangement on Monday January 17, 2022.

Another meeting of the caretaker Committee is scheduled for Tuesday January 18 to officially announce the Saturday February 26 National Convention date and the zoning arrangement.
