APC Denies Plans To Sabotage 2023 Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied making plans to influence the 2023 general elections by pressurizing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to discard use of technology in the process.

The APC Presidential Campaign Council spokesperson, Festus Keyamo in a chat with Journalists, dismissed the allegation, saying it is unfounded and false.

Keyamo’s disclaimer is in reaction to allegations raised by opposition political parties in Nigeria, under the auspices of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), that there were plots to truncate the 2023 election process.

In a press conference last month, CUPP’s spokesperson, Ikenga Ugochinyere, claimed they got an intelligence that the ruling party is planning to foist in the electoral process, a system that would  unduly favour it to victory in the 2023 polls.

Ugochinyere said part of the plot by the APC is mounting pressure on the INEC Chairman to suspend the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BIVAS) for voter accreditation, authentication and transmission of results the during the 2023 elections.

Keyamo, however, said such claim is not true, adding that the ruling party has not in any way engaged INEC with any form of entreaty to compromise standards to favour the APC.

He said such allegations were coming from oppositions parties that were already sensing defeat and therefore, looking for reasons to justify that.

“There has been absolutely no occasion, where the APC, either through NWC or any of levels of leadership, put any kind of pressure on INEC.

“Those sensing defeat are already looking for reasons for that defeat. It is one of the reasons, it is one of the excuses they are trying to generate to accommodate their defeat, but they should know that the defeat is imminent,” Keyamo stated.
