Contrary to recent reports, Prime Business Africa has found that governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) still stand with President Muhammadu Buhari on all issues relating to the February 26 National Convention of the party.

There have been conflicting reports on cracks in the Progressives Governors’ Forum over choice of a concensus national chairman. Prime Business Africa, however, gathered that all APC governors were in sync with President Buhari’s position on Convention.

Referring to the internal feud among the APC governors, some reports indicated that there were plans to scuttle the party’s national convention, as some of them went ahead to present their choice of a concensus national chairman to the president for approval, without the knowledge of others.

But a reliable source familar with the entire scenario told Prime Business Africa that all APC governors were on the same page with the president and were still working for the success of the convention.

It was also gathered that the earlier zoning arrangement of the party, allocating the chairmanship position to the North and Secretary to the South. still stands.

Sources said the consensus option was being pursued by some party stakeholders as a way of mitigating internal wrangling already baring it’s fangs within the party. But some disagreed, preferring an elective convention.

Also contrary to a media report which published the APC constitution stating that National Assembly members were excluded from the party’s national convention, article 12.1 (vi) of the original copy made available to Prime Business Africa stated clearly under the constitution of party organs for national convention that: “Serving and past members of the National Assembly and all serving members of State Houses of Assembly, who are members of the Party” should participate.

As part of the schedule of activities for the APC convention, sale of forms to all aspirants contesting for the party’s national offices will commence on Monday (today) at its national secretariat, while submission of completed forms will be on or before February 19, as revealed by a statement signed by the Secretary of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Senator John Akpanudoedehe.
