Checks by Prime Business Africa on the website of the Independent System Operator (ISO) shows that the power generation crashed to zero mega watts at 13:55 hrs on Wednesday.

Confirming the incident, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) in a statement on Wednesday said the disturbance on the national grid has led to loss of power supply across all its network.

“We are currently working with our partners as we hope for speedy restoration of the grid,” Eko DisCo stated on Wednesday via its social media handle.

Also, confirming the national grid failure, Ikeja DisCo in a statement said: “Please be informed that we are experiencing a system outage today, 11th December 2024 at 13:32hrs, affecting supply within our network.”

It assured that restoration is ongoing.

An earlier report had revealed that electricity blackout was imminent. It said the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) directed gas producers to halt supply of product to indebted generation companies (GenCos).

The Federal Government and some GenCos are said to be owing gas producers in Nigeria over N2 trillion.

It said the debt has hampered the ability of gas producers to sustain operations and called on gas off-takers, particularly power generation companies, to ensure timely payment for the gas supplied.
