Anambra Police Commissioner Hails State Govt For Creating Bureau Of Missing Persons

Newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has applauded the state government for the establishment of the Bureau of Missing Persons.

CP Orutugu pledged the Command’s support in providing necessary assistance to make sure the bureau’s objective is achieved.

The CP made the pledge on Wednesday, 12th February 2025 when he received in audience the Commissioner for Justice/Attorney General of the State Professor (Mrs) Sylvia Chika Ifemeje with her entourage.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Prof. Ifemeje was on a familiarisation visit to discuss ways of ensuring speedy and efficient prosecution of cases.

“The familiarisation visit was to discuss speedy prosecution of cases as well as the willingness of the Anambra State Police Command to collaborate with the key players in the administrative justice system in providing accurate evidence on cases and ensuring that justice is served swiftly and efficiently,” Ikenga stated.

“The Commissioner of Police also commended the State Government for establishing the Bureau of Missing Persons and pledged the Command’s support in providing necessary assistance to make sure the bureau’s objective is achieved.”

Prime Business Africa recalls that the State Government had in April 2023, approved the establishment of a bureau of missing persons.

The bureau which is domiciled in the State Ministry of Justice, has the mandate to trace cases of missing persons and come up with the needed database to support police investigations and eventual prosecution of suspects.

Those in the entourage of the Attorney General of the state received by the CP and his management team include: Mrs. Ndirika Onyekwelu Esq, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Justice; Mrs Nneka Umeozulu Esq, Director for Public Prosecution; Franklin Akunekwe Esq, Senior State Counsel/Personal Assistant to the Attorney General; and Mrs Chinelo Okeke, PRO Ministry of Justice.
