Amid Calls For His Impeachment, Lalong Vows To Bring Perpetrators Of Plateau Killings To Book

THE Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, says the perpetrators of attacks in the state will not go unpunished.

The governor made the vow when he visited Yelwa Zangam community in Jos North LGA.

Plateau has recorded a number of attacks over the past three weeks.

Addressing the residents, the governor said the incessant attacks were impeding development plans in the state, adding that about 3,000 personnel were being trained to address security issues.

He said he would establish a police station in the community and distribute relief materials to the victims of the attacks.

President of the Anaguta Development Association, Sunday Bonu, said a police station in the area would forestall attacks on the community.

“We need a police station to be sited here to curtail security challenges. We want compensation for the victims of the attacks to alleviate their suffering. We also need payment of hospital bills for those injured and hospitalised,” he said.

Prime Business Africa had last week reported that youths in Plateau State started a campaign to compel members of the  House of Assembly to impeach Governor Simon Lalong over the killings in the state.

However, some members of the state House of Assembly who spoke with Prime Business Africa said there was no constitutional ground to impeach him.

They, however, promised to engage with him to find solution to the unending killings.

One of the members of the House of Assembly, Hon. Peter Gyendeng, had said,  “We can’t just wake up and decide to impeach the governor without reasons. We must have the impeachable offences he has committed before we can  look at that and there are processes involved. We are meeting with the governor to discuss the security issues in the state first and look for a way forward before we take any decision.”

Hon. Musa Agah Aviah, representing Irigwe/Rukuba constituency, said the House of Assembly members had met but did not discuss impeachment of the governor.

He said, “That is the position of some people and you know impeachment is not something you can just wake up in a day and do, it is purely a constitutional issue. So, if we as a House discover there are some constitutional breaches in the performance of his Excellency, maybe then we can think of something like that.”
