December 17, 2025

A Skypower Express Cessna 172, registration 5N‑ASR, crashed during an emergency landing at Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri, Imo State, on Tuesday night.

The aircraft, which had departed Kaduna International Airport bound for Port Harcourt International Airport, declared an in‑flight emergency and diverted to Owerri, where it somersaulted on the runway.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) confirmed that all four occupants were on board and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. No fatalities were recorded, and there was no post‑crash fire. Airport emergency services responded promptly, and runway operations continued without interruption, allowing other flights to take off safely.
