The African Development Bank (AfDB) has expressed keen interest in collaborating with the Enugu State Government to propel investment and infrastructural development.

Speaking during a meeting at the Government House with Governor Peter Mbah, Lamin Barrow, the Director-General of AfDB’s Nigeria Country Department, emphasized Nigeria’s strategic significance in the AfDB’s programs.

Barrow revealed that the first phase, involving an $18 million investment in the Special Agro-Processing Zone, has received approval. Delving into the details, he explained that the second phase, currently in progress, aligns with the Enugu State Government’s initiatives, focusing on agro-allied crops like cassava and maize.

“The SAPZ aims to develop value chains, reduce post-harvest losses, and forge strong connections with farmers, all driven by anchor private-sector investors,” Barrow stated.

Jitender Sachdeva, President of Skipper Group, announced plans to construct the green special agro-allied industry zone in collaboration with AfDB, facilitating business operations and providing sustainable electricity for factories in the state.

Governor Peter Mbah expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing the readiness of Enugu State to leverage the opportunities presented by AfDB.

He assured that all prerequisites for the project, including environmental and social impact assessments, feasibility studies, and identified land for the Special Agro-Processing Zone, had been addressed.

“I want to inform you that Enugu State is ready,” Governor Mbah affirmed. “We have prepared all the prerequisite documentation and surveys needed to get started with this project.”

This collaborative effort between AfDB, Enugu State, and Skipper Group not only signifies a boost in agro-processing and infrastructure but also underscores the commitment to sustainable development in the region.
