Kaduna Election Tribunal Declares 2023 Governorship Race Inconclusive, Ousts Uba Sani from APC

In a stunning turn of events, the Election Petition Tribunal in Kaduna has sent shockwaves through the political landscape by not only declaring the 2023 governorship election in the state inconclusive but also by removing Governor Uba Sani from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The 3-man panel led by Justice Victor Oviawe, therefore, ordered a rerun of the election in 24 polling units in seven wards of four local governments consisting of 16,300 registered voters.

The unexpected development comes as a result of a petition brought forth by Isah Mohammed Ashiru, the candidate representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging the legitimacy of the election results.

The verdict was announced via Zoom after the judges shunned the physical hall.

Ashiru’s bold move has set a precedent in Nigerian politics, as it marks the first time in recent history that an election tribunal has taken such a drastic step.

While observers expected a routine review of the election results, the tribunal’s decision to declare the election inconclusive has raised eyebrows and ignited heated discussions among political analysts and citizens alike.

Governor Uba Sani’s removal from the APC further adds to the complexity of the situation, as it signals a potential shift in the political dynamics of Kaduna state. The ruling party now faces the task of regrouping and strategizing for the impending rerun election.

As the legal battle unfolds, one thing is certain: the 2023 governorship election in Kaduna is far from over, and its outcome remains uncertain.
