Nigeria’s newly-appointed Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has assumed the role of Chairman of Shelter Afrique’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) Bureau.
This development marks a new chapter in the organisation’s leadership, with Dangiwa succeeding the former Chairman, Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, CON.

The organisation plays a pivotal role in providing financial solutions, advisory services, and project management for affordable housing projects across Africa. It is currently owned by 44 African countries, the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa-Re).

Dangiwa in a statement expressed his commitment to steering Shelter Afrique towards greater heights during his tenure. He said: “I am honored to take on this crucial role within Shelter Afrique. We will work diligently to ensure affordable housing and infrastructure development continue to thrive across Africa.”
Dangiwa’s appointment comes as a result of his elevation to head the Ministry for Housing and Urban Development in Nigeria.
His inaugural task as Chairman will be presiding over Shelter Afrique’s Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) slated for October 3rd – 6th, 2023, at the Centre International de Conferences (CIC) in Algiers, Algeria. During this meeting, shareholders will cast their votes on the Revised Statutes of the Institution.
Notably, the AGM will also convene next year in Kigali, Rwanda, under Dangiwa’s leadership. The Minister will have the support of Dr. Ernest Nsabimana, Rwanda’s Minister for Infrastructure, and Mr. Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, Algeria’s Minister for Housing, Urban Planning, and City, who will serve as his deputies.
Shelter Afrique’s Board Chairperson, Dr. Chii Akporji, expressed the organization’s excitement about working alongside Minister Dangiwa during his tenure. “We have briefed Arc. Dangiwa on Shelter Afrique’s operations in Nigeria, including the historic Naira-denominated bond. We are also looking forward to his support in approving the Statutes Revision Process, a critical step toward solidifying Shelter Afrique’s growth trajectory,” Dr. Akporji stated.
Furthermore, Shelter Afrique is seeking Minister Dangiwa’s intervention to secure Nigeria’s outstanding capital subscription of US$21 million, which had been approved by the previous administration but not released by the end of its tenure.
Nigeria currently holds the position of the second-largest shareholder in Shelter Afrique, following Kenya.
