The newly appointed Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has debunked reports that she released a statement about her NYSC status.

Barr. Musawa has media storm following some reports that she is currently serving as a National Youth Service Corps member (NYSC) while also taking up the appointment as minister.

She was appointed minister by President Bola Tinubu about two weeks ago.

In 2020, former President Muhammadu Buhari nominated her for appointment as the national commissioner representing Nigeria’s northwest geopolitical zone on the board of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM).

Shortly after her inauguration, some Nigerians disagreed with her appointment, saying she couldn’t observe her mandatory one-year youth service program and still serve as minister of the federal republic at the same time.

Some reports claimed that she issued a statement to clarify the NYSC saga.

Reacting to the report, the legal expert, however, said the statement  did not emanate from her and urged members of the public to disregard it.

A statement signed by Suleiman Haruna, Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, said she has not released any official statement regarding the matter.

The statement quoted the minister as saying “I deeply value and appreciate the support, solidarity, and understanding of Nigerians in these times. For clarity, I wish to state that I have not issued any statement on the current issue.”
