NDLEA, UK's National Crime Agency Renew Commitment

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) of Nigeria and the National Crime Agency (NCA) of the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their dedication to combatting drug cartels and organized crimes in both countries.

This commitment was emphasized during the signing of a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two agencies at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja.

Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Retd), the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, and David Cater, the Regional Manager, West Africa, NCA, expressed their determination to intensify efforts in targeting and dismantling criminal networks involved in drug trafficking.

Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa emphasized the significance of the renewed MoU in enhancing high intelligence-driven operations against organized criminal networks, regardless of their location.

He commended the upcoming collaboration between the NCA’s rebranded Criminal Intelligence Task Force (CITF) and NDLEA, expressing optimism about the specialist capabilities that the project will provide.

Marwa expressed gratitude to the Government of the United Kingdom for its continuous technical support and acknowledged the dedication of UK NCA personnel, whose efforts inspire NDLEA’s officials in tackling serious organized crimes effectively.

Marwa recognized that serious organized crime poses a grave threat to lives and properties in both countries, and it is essential to proactively manage intelligence and enhance capabilities to disrupt transnational criminal syndicates. The renewal of the MoU signifies another significant milestone in the collaborative efforts between NDLEA and NCA.

David Cater, during the brief ceremony, expressed satisfaction in renewing the MoU and stressed its importance in furthering the joint efforts of NDLEA and NCA.

He noted that the renewed agreement would enable them to take the battle to the cartels. Cater expressed appreciation for the support and confidence shown by NDLEA’s leadership, assuring continued assistance in supporting the agency’s success in its assignments.
