Transcorp, Geregu, Others Drag Down Nigerian Stock Market Value By N65.88 billion

How Loss Of Over $5 Trillion In U.S. Stock Exchange Affects Nigeria

On Tuesday, 2 May, N65.88 billion was wiped off from the N28.53 trillion market capitalisation the Nigerian bourse closed with on Friday, 28 April.

The Nigerian stock market didn’t open on Monday, 1 May, due to the Workers’ Day public holiday.

As a result, the Nigerian bourse’s valuation depreciated by –0.23 per cent, with the equity capitalisation settling at N28.46 trillion. 

The All-Share Index fell to 52,282.52 ASI, from 52,403.51 ASI, indicating a 120.99 basis points drop.

Investors traded 476.38 million shares in 5,204 deals on Tuesday, worth N4.51 billion. 

On Friday, they exchanged 3.12 billion shares, valued at N13.06 billion, in 5,573 deals. 

Top five gainers 

  • Conoil’s share appreciated by 4 per cent to rise from N40 to N44 per share.     
  • UBN grew by N0.70kobo, up from N7 to N7.70kobo per share.     
  • Multiverse ended trading with N3.05 from N2.78kobo per share, rising by N0.27kobo.   
  • Academy gained N0.14kobo to end trading at N1.59kobo, having opened with N1.45kobo per share.     
  • Nigerian Breweries’ stock was up by N3, closing at N35 from N32 per share.       

Top five losers 

  • Geregu depreciated by N32.30kobo, dwindling from N323 to N290.70kobo per share.        
  • Transcorp also fell by N0.28kobo to end trading at N2.53kobo, after opening at N2.81kobo per share.        
  • Sunu Assurance followed the same path, losing 9.80 per cent after trading hours, to sell at N0.46kobo from N0.51kobo per share.        
  • Africa Prudential reported a decline of N0.55kobo from the previous day’s share price of N5.85kobo to end trading at N5.30kobo per share.        
  • Japaul Gold share depreciated to N0.30kobo from N0.33kobo, after losing 9.09 per cent during trading hours.        

Top five trading equities in the stock exchange 

  • Transcorp reported 133.41 million shares, valued at N415.36 million, were traded on its floor.      
  • Access Corporation recorded 117.93 million shares valued at N1.23 billion.       
  • Mansard saw investors trade 30.49 million of its shares valued at N73.42 million.       
  • Wapic recorded 21.41 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N9.43 million.        
  • UBA reported 16.01 million shares, valued at N125.34 million, exchanged investors’ hands.
