Transcorp, Ikeja Hotel, Others Earn N177.11bn In Nigerian Stock Market

On Tuesday, 25 April, the market capitalisation of the Nigerian bourse appreciated by 0.63 per cent, handing N177.11 billion to equity investors in Transcorp and others on the gainers’ list.

The stock market’s positive close comes after the Eid el-Fitr public holiday on Friday, 21 April, and Monday, 24 April, which led to the bourse not opening for trading during these days.

At the end of trading, the Nigerian stock market capitalisation rose from Thursday’s N27.96 trillion to N28.14 trillion on Tuesday.

The All-Share Index gained 325.27 basis points to rise from 51,355.74 ASI to 51,681.01 ASI. 

About 2.09 billion, worth N8.84 billion, exchanged investors’ hands on Tuesday in 6,404 deals. 

This contrasted the 600.77 million shares traded in 4,309 deals last week Thursday, worth N5.05 billion.

Top five gainers 

  • Japaul Gold’s share appreciated by 10 per cent to rise from N0.30kobo to N0.33kobo per share.    
  • Honeywell Flour grew by N0.23kobo, up from N2.32kobo to N2.55kobo per share.    
  • Berger ended trading with N8.35kobo from N7.60kobo per share, rising by N0.75kobo.  
  • Transcorp gained N0.24kobo to end trading at N2.69kobo, having opened with N2.45kobo per share.    
  • Ikeja Hotel’s stock was up by N0.24kobo, closing at N2.69obo from N2.45kobo per share.      

Top five losers 

  • Wapic depreciated by 7.32 per cent, dwindling from N0.41kobo to N0.38kobo per share.       
  • NGX Group also fell by N1.30kobo to end trading at N25.30kobo, after opening at N26.60kobo per share.       
  • RT Briscoe followed the same path, losing 4 per cent after trading hours, to sell at N0.24kobo from N0.25kobo per share.       
  • AIICO reported a decline of 3.64 per cent from the previous day’s share price of N0.55kobo to end trading at N0.53kobo per share.       
  • Royal Exchange share depreciated to N0.61kobo from N0.63kobo, after losing 3.17 per cent during trading hours.       

Top five trading equities in the stock exchange 

  • Transcorp reported 1.65 billion shares, valued at N4.09 billion, were traded on its floor.     
  • Access Corporation recorded 217.41 million shares valued at N2.31 billion.      
  • Fidelity Bank saw investors trade 30.70 million of its shares valued at N175.78 million.      
  • Zenith Bank recorded 27.55 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N608.80 million.       
  • UBA reported 18.21 million shares, valued at N143.60 million, exchanged investors’ hands.
