THE Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (NAU), Prof. Charles Esimone, says he has the vision of placing the institution among the 200 best universities in the world in the next three years.

Esimone said he was also making efforts to get the university to rank among 10 best universities in Africa and the best in Nigeria.

The Vice Chancellor disclosed this during a courtesy call on him by the national executive members of the Association of Nigerian Musicologists (ANIM) who are holding their 2021 national conference in the university.

The annual conference which is 18th in the series, began on August 16 and will end on August 20, 2021.

ANIM is an organisation made up of music educators working in educational institutions.

The university head said he believed that one of the strategies to make an institution become well known was to promote performing arts.

He disclosed that he had ordered musical equipment worth over N200m from the United Kingdom for the institution’s music department to boost performing arts.

The VC said, “When you have vision you must be able to place matrices to be able to accomplish that. In all honesty, from the beginning, I recognised that one of the fastest ways of making your institution to be known and well acclaimed is by using the potential of the performing arts. If you look at Nigeria as a nation, we are not doing very well, but if you look at Nollywood and the music industry, they are taking us to places we have never been.

“I am confident that whatever investment we are making in this area will really project our university to a greater height.”

Esimone was elected as Vice Chancellor of the university on May 14, 2019.
