Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission  (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu, who is the chief returning officer of the presidential election declared Tinubu as the winner of the polls which opposition political parties have described as a sham, calling for the cancellation of the exercise.

According to official results announced by INEC, Tinubu polled 8,794,726 votes beating the other three leading candidates in the election – Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, Obi of LP and Rabiu Musa Kwankaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

LP, PDP, and some other political parties have rejected the results of the presidential poll, claiming that it was compromised.

“I intend to address Nigerians and the international community shortly,” stated in a tweet, Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the LP vice presidential candidate, Dr Yusuf Baba-Ahmed Datti, has called on their supporters to remain calm over the outcome of the last Saturday’s election.

Addressing an international press conference at the Labour Party Headquarters in Abuja, hours after INEC declared Tinubu as the winner, Datti urged the supporters to come out en mass to participate in the  March 11 governorship and state assemblies election.

“No amount of pressure would get the Labour Party or its agents to preach against peace,” he insisted, adding that despite the outcome of the poll, they still have hope in Nigeria.

He added that Labour Party will continue to hold President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration accountable for a free and credible.
