Kidnapped Niger State Commissioner Regains Freedom

The kidnapped Niger State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mohammed Sani Idris, has regained freedom after spending four days in the hands of his abductors.

Prime Business Africa reported on Monday that Idris was abducted in his home town of Baban Tunga village in Tafa local council of Niger State on Sunday.

It was gathered that Idris was released at about 9.30 pm Thursday night at a location in Suleja town and was moved straight to hospital for medical attention.

Immediately the news of his release filtered into his home town and Minna, the state capital, sympathisers trooped to his house to rejoice with the family members.

As at the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the state government, although, it was gathered that no ransom was paid for the commissioner’s release.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Niger State Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun could not be reach for comment.

A statement from the commissioner’s family members signed by Ado Ada, noted that the family had embarked on intensive prayers to seek for divine intervention since he was abducted by heavily armed bandits.

“The Commissioner has re-united with his family after receiving medical attention,” the statement said.
