The English FA will consider appointing a foreign coach should England manager Gareth Southgate resign according to the English media on Monday evening.

This will be great news to the ears of former Premier League coaches like Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel, who are both reportedly keen on replacing Southgate reports from the English online tabloids revealed.

England crashed out of the World Cup after a heartbreaking quarter-final defeat to reigning world champions France.

The Three Lions put in a solid performance against Les Bleus, but Harry Kane skied a late penalty in the 2-1 defeat.

Following England’s World Cup exit, there have been lots of debate surrounding Southgate’s future as manager.

The onetime Midddlesbrough defender has often been criticised for his in-game management, substitutions, and overall conservative style of play.

There is no debate over the work Southgate has done off the pitch, however, creating a terrific togetherness in the squad.

Now could be the time to hand the job to an elite coach, with Tuchel certainly falling into that bracket.

The German won the Champions League with Chelsea within six months of replacing Frank Lampard and led the Blues to the final of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Pochettino, on the other hand, led Tottenham to the Champions League final before losing his job.

He then joined Paris Saint-Germain, where he won Ligue 1, but once again lost his job after failing in Europe.

However this report states that the FA will look to identify a Southgate replacement ‘from the widest possible talent pool’ with Brendan Rodgers an option but his £8m a year pay could be a hindrance to that possibility.

England’s exit in the quarterfinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar ensured they failed to replicate the third place finish of the previous tournament in Russia and will be focused on the European Championship in 2024.
