The World Athletics on Tuesday ratified the women’s world 100m hurdles record set at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon by Nigeria’s Tobiloba Amusan reports Prime Business Africa.

“Amusan’s 12.12 in the women’s 100m hurdles semi finals, Duplantis’s 6.21m in the men’s pole vault final and McLaughlin’s 50.68 in the women’s 400m hurdles final are all now officially in the record books, as is the world U20 mark of 9.94 set by Letsile Tebogo in the men’s 100m heats.”

Amusan is also the current African, commonwealth, and world champion in the 100m hurdles, and holds the race record in the three competitions.

On 15 September 2022, Amusan was conferred in Abuja with the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) by President Muhammadu Buhari along with other medal winners like Ese Brume.

Amusan’s track and field feats have attracted corporate organisations who are keen to have her as their brand ambassador.

Recently a leading Nigerian commercial bank announced their partnership with Amusan alongside fellow World Athletics Championship and Commonwealth Games medallist Ese Brume in Lagos.

“Our reason for an ambassadorial partnership with the renowned athletes Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume, speaks to our drive for enabling growth. We want individuals to see themselves through their unique stories, and see us as an institution committed to powering their dreams,” a statement from the bank noted.

The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development  created the Adopt-an-Athlete initiative to prepare Nigeria’s athletes ahead of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo which was held in 2021 due to the Coronavirus epidemic that disrupted global sports competitions.
