Britain’s Conservative Party on Monday announced that its members have chosen Liz Truss to replace Boris Johnson as new Prime Minister, reports Prime Business Africa.

Ms  Liz Truss, 47 prevailed over Rishi Sunak by claiming 81,326 votes to Mr. Sunak’s 60,399 votes after a poll by a margin of 57.4 percent to her rival’s 42.6 percent.

The feat makes Truss Britain’s fourth prime minister in six years and third female leader, after Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May.

Britain has been dogged by double-digit inflation, a looming recession, labor unrest, soaring household energy bills and possible fuel shortages this winter
Ms. Liz Truss was most recently foreign secretary at 10 Downing Street and emerged from a crowded field of eight candidates by appealing to party members with a single-minded message of tax cuts and smaller government.
Truss pledged to cut taxes, grow the economy and energy problems facing the UK while Boris Johnson is expected to submit his resignation to the Queen of England on Tuesday.
