Police Disperse Protesters Clamouring For Release Of Sunday Igboho

Nigerian Police have dispersed supporters of Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho who protested against the arrest of the Yoruba Nation agitator by authorities in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

As at 12 noon on Wednesday, supporters of Igboho gathered in front of his house in the Soka area of Ibadan from where they took to the streets to protest the arrest of the activist.

The protesters blocked some sections of the road, that led to traffic around Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

It was gathered that protesters marched to Soka Bus Stop along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway where they sang Igboho Oosa”, “Free Igboho now now”and raised their voice in solidarity for the release of Igboho.

They were heard singing the Yoruba Nation anthem and chanting “Igboho Oosa”, “Free Igboho now now”

Residents of Soka area said the protesters carried placards with inscriptions like “I stand with Chief Sunday Igboho”; “Sunday Igboho is not a criminal”; “Yoruba wake up” and “Sunday Igboho is fighting for our freedom”.

The protesters called on Yoruba leaders and the international community to fight for the release of Igboho.

It was gathered that as at 3:45pm, armed policemen had taken over the place and positioned themselves before the protesters later left.
