Bayern Munich Signs Matthijs de Ligt From Juventus For £68m

July 19, 2022

German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening confirmed the signing of Matthijs de Ligt in a deal said to be worth around £68m from Juventus.

The Dutch defender, 22, had been the subject of much speculation this summer but Bayern Munich have won the race for his signature despite interest from elsewhere, including Chelsea.

De Ligt was reportedly reluctant to sign a new deal with Juventus beyond the final two years of his initial five-year deal with the club and as such the ‘Old Lady’ were happy to cash in on him this window.

Chelsea who were favourites initially for de Ligt but eventually settled for Senegal’s Kalidou Koulibaly who was handed a three-year contract with an option of an additional year.
