An FCT High Court has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to refrain from publishing any name as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Anambra State’s November 6 governorship election.

The suit was filed by Valentine Ozigbo, who was seeking an order to compel INEC not to tamper with his name which the PDP submitted to INEC on June 2.

Ozigbo also asked the court to grant an order that INEC should publish his name and not that of any other candidate. And that PDP should not tamper with the name which was submitted to INEC on June 2, 2021.

The Court, presided over by Justice Y. Halilu, instead, ordered that status quo be maintained by INEC by not publishing the name of any candidate of the PDP pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

Recall that Prime Business Africa, on Wednesday, reported that the PDP had raised the alarm, accusing Senator Ugochukwu Uba of plot to assault the rule of law.

Referring to another ongoing Suit No. A/230/2021: SENATOR UGOCHUKWU UBA VS. INEC, PDP & ANOR, the PDP had accused the Plaintiff’s Counsel, Chief B.E.I Nwofor and the interests represented of maneuvering in the Court to procure what it called another black market order of injunction to truncate the course of justice.

With the new order and related events in other political parties, uncertainty now pervades the political environment in the state as Ndi Anambra prepare to elect a new governor on November 6, to take over from Willie Obiano in March 2022.
