Canadian Gov’t Invites 1,500 Foreign Students, Workers For Permanent Residency

The Canadian Government has resumed the Express Entry draw for permanent residency after suspending the programme due to COVID-induced lockdown in 2020. The draw will cover all application types.

Following the draw on Friday, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 1,500 new Express Entry candidates, which includes International student and foreign working population, who are grouped into Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

They were invited to apply for the permanent residency after meeting the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off score, 557. The mark is determined by age, education, work experience, and language skills – all of which forms up the human capital characteristics.

The Express Entry programme consist of Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), as well as the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Following the application, if successful, applicants will be selected to become permanent residents of Canada. The screening process will take six months according to Canada’s Immigration Minister, Sean Frazer.

“Today, I am pleased to announce that Express Entry draws have officially resumed, and applications will be processed at our 6-month processing standard.” Frazer said.

He added that, “I want to thank the candidates from around the world for their patience, as we worked to reduce the backlog before resuming Express Entry draws. I look forward to welcoming skilled workers who will are essential in addressing Canada’s labour shortages.”
