In what appears a no-revenge situation for Iran on the killing of the top commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), Major General Qassem Soleimani, by the United States of America, a senior commander of the Guards Mohammad Pakpour,  on Wednesday said his death cannot be avenged even if all U.S leaders are killed in one fell swoop.

Soleimani’s was killed in a US drone strike at Baghdad airport, Iraq, following which  Tehran retaliated by attacking US bases in Iraq.

Iranian state media citing Reuters on Wednesday quoted Pakpour as saying that “Martyr Soleimani is a great character, so if all American leaders are killed, this will still not avenge his killing. We must repay him by following Soleimani’s path and through other methods.”

President Donald Trump’s administration had in 2020 said Soleimani was targeted for planning ‘‘future attacks against US interests.’’ Trump had also accused the late Guards Commander of previously helping to coordinate attacks on U.S troops in Iraq  by deploying proxy militias.

Remarks by Pakpour follows US Army General Mark Milley’s comments that he did not said he did not support removing Iran’s Quds Force, part of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), from list of foreign terrorist organizations. The request was made by Tehran as part of measures to revive the 2015 nuclear deal. General Milley is the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff,

Recall that President Trump had abandoned the deal under which Iran had agreed to curb its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of international financial sanctions. Iran responded by encroaching on its borders, which President Joe Bidan later aimed to restore.

Indirect talks between Iran and the United States have stalled since March, as both countries blame each other for failing to resolve the remnant of the issues one of which is whether the U.S is prepared to remove the Iranian Guard from its terrorist list.
