United Nations General Assembly Condemns Russia’s Invasion Of Ukraine

March 2, 2022

A total of 141 nations on Wednesday voted for a swift resolution against the Russian invasion of Ukraine at the United Nations General Assembly while 35 countries abstained from the session with five countries voting against it.

The non-binding resolution did not apparently sit well with Belarus, Eritrea, North Korea and Syria who voted in support Russia.

The resolution deplored Russia’s “aggression” against Ukraine “in the strongest terms” and “demands” Russia “immediately” withdraw from Ukraine.

Belarus in particular has received condemnations from most European nations which shares a border with Russia for not standing up against the war crimes of Vladimir Putin’s regime.

The UN also condemned President Vladimir Putin’s decision to put his nuclear forces on alert

The resolution is not legally binding but the vote tally could serve to put additional pressure on the Kremlin. A similar motion was vetoed last week in the UN Security Council, with Russia’s vote the only one against.
