A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to restore White House press access for reporters from CNN, MS NOW and Politico, temporarily blocking the administration’s decision to exclude the three news organisations.

U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly issued a 14-day temporary restraining order after the organisations challenged the withdrawal of their White House press credentials. Kelly found that the outlets were likely to succeed in arguing that the administration had not provided adequate due process before revoking their access.

The judge cited earlier federal cases involving White House press credentials, including litigation involving CNN correspondent Jim Acosta and journalist Brian Karem. He also questioned the administration’s argument that national-security concerns justified the restrictions.
President Donald Trump announced the exclusion on Sept. 18, accusing the three outlets of publishing what he described as “fake news.” Administration lawyers later defended the decision in court, arguing that White House access is a privilege and citing national-security and classified-information concerns.
CNN, MS NOW and Politico sued Trump and other administration officials on Sept. 21, arguing that the restrictions violated constitutional protections for the press. They asked the court to restore their access while the case proceeds.

Kelly’s order is preliminary and does not resolve the broader constitutional challenge. The temporary measure keeps the reporters’ access in place for 14 days while the court considers the dispute.
The case is the latest clash between the Trump administration and news organisations over access to the White House and the rules governing press credentials.
