NGX Extends Decline With N555bn Loss As Traders Increase Trading To N37bn Deals

On Wednesday, the market capitalisation of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) closed at N155.41 trillion, below the N155.97 trillion recorded on Tuesday.

This represents a N555.67 billion loss, which was driven by the 860.76 basis points decline in the all-share index (ASI).

According to the NGX, the all-share index contracted to 240,750.47 ASI, from 241,611.23 ASI.

At the end of trading, stock market traders exchanged 1.19 billion shares in 34,546 deals, valued at N37.81 billion, compared to the 35,683 deals sealed on Tuesday, when N27.48 billion was traded for 429.83 million shares.

Top Five Gainers

  • HM Call’s share price increased by N0.32 kobo, from N3.20 kobo to N3.52 kobo per share.
  • Wapic’s share ended trading at N2.44 kobo per share, from N2.25 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N0.19 kobo.
  • UAC Nigeria share value grew by N10.95 kobo, from N166.90 kobo to N177.85 kobo per share.
  • Ava Capital’s share appreciated by N0.45 kobo to end trading at N7.60 kobo, having opened with N7.15 kobo.
  • Caverton share value was up by N0.25 kobo, after closing at N4.95 kobo, from N4.70 kobo per share.

Top Five Losers

  • International Energy Insurance’s share price depreciated by N0.53 kobo, dwindling from N5.30 kobo to N4.77 kobo per share.
  • Aradel Holdings recorded a N152.60 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N1,374.20 kobo, after opening with N1,526.80 kobo.
  • Universal Insurance reported a 9.41 percent decline in its share price to end trading at N0.77 kobo, after opening with N0.85 kobo per share.
  • Redstar Express lost N1.50 kobo in its share price, to sell at N14.70 kobo, down from N16.20 kobo per share.
  • Royal Express reported a decline of N0.10 kobo, from the previous share price of N1.16 kobo, to end trading at N1.06 per share.

Top Five Trading Equities

  • Fortis Global Insurance reported that 610.67 million shares valued at N1.19 trillion were traded on its floor.
  • FCMB recorded 60.84 million shares valued at N722.89 million.
  • Fidelity Bank saw investors trade 57.02 million of its shares valued at N1.18 billion.
  • Consolidated Hallmark recorded 46.31 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N312.72 million.
  • Royal Exchange reported that traders exchanged 43.54 million shares valued at N45.77 million.
