MultiChoice has officially become a wholly owned subsidiary of French media giant Canal+, marking the completion of its takeover and the beginning of a new chapter for one of Africa’s leading pay television companies.
The acquisition integrates MultiChoice into the Canal+ Group, significantly expanding its international reach and positioning the broadcaster within a global media organisation operating in 70 countries.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Chief Executive Officer of Canal+ Africa and MultiChoice, David Mignot, described the development as a transformative milestone for the company and its operations across the continent.
“MultiChoice is now a full subsidiary of a truly international media group operating in 70 countries,” Mignot said.
“The group was founded in France, is listed in London and Johannesburg, and has a strong African presence, with operations in more than 45 countries.”
Mignot said the integration would provide MultiChoice with access to Canal+’s global resources, technological expertise, production capabilities and extensive content distribution network, strengthening its ability to compete in an increasingly competitive media and entertainment industry.
The combined group’s expanded scale and international footprint are expected to create new opportunities for innovation, investment and operational growth, while reinforcing Canal+’s long-term commitment to the African market.

MultiChoice, which operates DStv, GOtv, SuperSport and the Showmax streaming platform across sub-Saharan Africa, serves millions of subscribers with a wide range of entertainment, sports and news content.
