U.S. President Donald Trump has defended a controversial AI-generated image he shared online later deleted following widespread criticism saying it was misinterpreted as portraying him as Jesus Christ.
Speaking to reporters after removing the post from his Truth Social account, Trump insisted the image was not intended to depict a religious figure.

The explanation came after the image, which showed Trump in flowing robes and a stylised healing pose, triggered backlash from religious commentators and Christian organisations who said it appeared to depict him in a Christ-like manner.

The post was subsequently deleted, a move widely interpreted as a response to the growing controversy, though no formal apology has been issued by the President.
Amid the fallout, Knights Templar International issued a strongly worded statement condemning the image and demanding a public apology.
The group said it was “deeply offended” and described the post as “blasphemous,” urging Trump to retract it formally and apologise to Christians. It also cited Galatians 6:7 “God will not be mocked” in its rebuke, while referencing its past political support for Trump during his 2016 and 2024 presidential campaigns.
The controversy has intensified debate over the use of religious imagery in political communication, particularly within Trump’s Christian support base. While supporters argue the President’s explanation clarifies intent, critics say the episode was avoidable and that a clearer apology would have helped de-escalate tensions more effectively.
