On Monday, March 16, the Nigerian Exchange’s (NGX) market capitalisation increased to N129.32 trillion, as the all-share index (ASI) crossed 200,000 points — the highest level in the stock market history.
According to the NGX, the market capitalisation increased by N1.96 trillion from N127.36 trillion on Friday, March 13.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelThis followed the 3,067.59 basis points gained by the stock market index, which expanded from 198,407.3 ASI to 201,474.89 ASI.
Also, over 948.21 million shares were exchanged by NGX traders in 72,735 deals, valued at N49.17 billion, exceeding the 591.04 million shares traded in 53,066 deals, valued at N35 billion, on Friday.
Top five gainers
- BUA Cement’s share price increased by N27 to rise from N270 to N297 per share.
- Premier Paints’ share value grew by N1.90 kobo, from N19.40 kobo to N21.30 kobo per share.
- John Holt ended trading at N10.35 kobo per share, from N9.45 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N0.90 kobo.
- Guinea Insurance’s share appreciated by N0.12 kobo to end trading at N1.40 kobo, having opened with N1.28 kobo.
- Fortis Global Insurance’s share value was up by N0.11 kobo, after closing at N1.29 kobo from N1.18 kobo per share.
Top five losers
- VFD Group’s share price depreciated by N1.25 kobo, dwindling from N12.50 kobo to N11.25 kobo per share.
- Royal Exchange recorded a N0.18 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N1.69 kobo after opening with N1.87 kobo per share.
- Omatek recorded a N0.25 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N2.35 kobo after opening with N2.60 kobo per share.
- Sovereign Insurance lost N0.19 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N1.92 kobo from N2.11 kobo per share.
- Regal Insurance reported a decline of N0.11 kobo from the previous share price of N1.23 kobo to end trading at N1.12 kobo per share.

- Sovereign Insurance reported that 72.56 million shares valued at N147.12 million were traded on its floor.
- Access Holdings recorded 69.85 million shares valued at N1.75 billion.
- First HoldCo saw investors trade 67.03 million of its shares valued at N3.35 billion.
- Zenith Bank recorded 59.95 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N5.95 billion.
- Nigerian Breweries reported that traders exchanged 55.02 million shares valued at N4.03 billion.
