Dangote Sugar, Jaiz Bank Shares Decline, Drag NGX Down By N101bn

Trading closed with a N101.89 billion decline in the market capitalisation of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) on Wednesday, March 4.

The NGX said the Nigerian stock market’s market capitalisation decreased to N126.09 trillion, from the N126.19 trillion recorded on Tuesday, March 3.

In addition, the all-share index (ASI) contracted to 196,463.22 ASI, from 196,621.96 ASI, indicating a 158.74 basis points loss.

Over 71,312 deals were sealed on Wednesday, after equity traders exchanged 805.25 million shares, valued at N38.41 billion, compared to the 880 million shares traded in 86,761 deals, valued at N44.51 billion, on Tuesday.

Top five gainers

  • Premier Paints’ share price increased by N1.10 kobo to rise from N11 to N12.10 kobo per share.
  • Fortis Global Insurance’s share value grew by N0.11 kobo, from N1.13 kobo to N1.24 kobo per share.
  • UAC Nigeria ended trading at N115 per share, from N106.70 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N8.30 kobo.
  • Eterna’s share appreciated by N2.10 kobo to end trading at N35, having opened with N32.90 kobo.
  • Custodian’s share value was up by N4, after closing at N70 from N66 per share.

Top five losers

  • Dangote Sugar’s share price depreciated by N8.30 kobo, dwindling from N83 to N74.70 kobo per share.
  • Jaiz Bank recorded a N1.20 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N10.80 kobo after opening with N12 per share.
  • LOTUSHAL15 lost N11.76 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N105.90 kobo from N117.66 kobo per share.
  • CAP recorded a N9.40 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N84.85 kobo after opening with N94.25 kobo per share.
  • Union Dicon reported a decline of N1.65 kobo from the previous share price of N16.60 kobo to end trading at N14.95 kobo per share.

Top five trading equities

  • Veritas Kapital reported that 56.41 million shares valued at N130.01 million were traded on its floor.
  • Jaiz Bank recorded 51.02 million shares valued at N576.15 million.
  • Universal Insurance saw investors trade 48.35 million of its shares valued at N61.37 million.
  • Zenith Bank recorded 47.62 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N4.38 billion.
  • Access Holdings reported that traders exchanged 46.38 million shares valued at N1.20 billion.
