Gunmen Attack Adamawa State Police HQ Amid Tensions; Military Link Suspected

Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad has called on Nigerians to unite in addressing the worsening insecurity in northern Nigeria, amid a deadly wave of attacks recorded in February 2026, Prime Business Africa reports.

In a post on his official X account on Tuesday, Ahmad said communities that were once peaceful are now living under constant fear, with loss of lives and disruption of livelihoods. “This is not a challenge for the government alone. It is a collective concern that involves leaders, traditional institutions, security agencies, stakeholders and the general public,” he wrote. He stressed that lasting solutions require trust, intelligence sharing, and sustained commitment to justice and development.

Recent Attacks Claim Dozens of Lives

The call comes as northern communities continue to experience violent incidents:

  • In Zamfara State, gunmen attacked rural villages, killing at least 50 people and abducting several women and children. Another raid left 38 civilians dead.
  • Kebbi State experienced coordinated raids that killed 33 residents, prompting the deployment of additional security personnel.
  • In Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State, nearly 200 villagers were killed in attacks that also displaced hundreds of residents.
  • Niger State saw renewed bandit activity that forced residents in border communities to flee their homes, disrupting farms and local markets.

Security sources say the attacks involved armed groups on motorcycles targeting isolated villages, overwhelming local defenses and taking captives for ransom.

Reactions and Public Debate

Ahmad’s post drew mixed reactions on social media. Supporters praised his call for community involvement alongside government efforts, while critics questioned his previous role in government and argued that accountability for past security failures must be acknowledged.

The recent surge in violence underscores the ongoing challenge of insecurity in northern Nigeria and the urgent need for coordinated responses from security agencies, community leaders, and citizens.
