Customs Transforms Lagos Community with School Renovation, Sports Arena

February 12, 2026

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has strengthened its commitment to education and healthy living with the renovation of Methodist Primary School, Ibeshe, Ikorodu, and the commissioning of the Wale Adeniyi Sports Arena at the Western Marine Command, in a dual ceremony on Wednesday.

Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi described the initiatives as part of the Service’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drive, aimed at delivering tangible benefits to communities while supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“The impact we are making here goes beyond bricks and mortar. It is about transforming lives, uplifting our community, and creating lasting value,” Adeniyi said during the commissioning of the school.

The renovation covered 15 classroom blocks and included the installation of 15 solar security lights, computer rooms, a library, teacher and pupil toilets, a clinic, a food vendor area, a multipurpose hall, and a playground.

Former and current Customs Area Controllers of Lilypond Export Command, Comptrollers Ajibola Odusanya (Rtd) and Samuel Ariyibi, hailed education as a powerful driver of social progress and called on school authorities to establish a maintenance unit to sustain the facilities.

Headmistress Felicia Oyatoye expressed gratitude, noting that the improvements would greatly enhance the teaching and learning environment. The event drew traditional rulers, government officials, community stakeholders, and well-wishers.

In a separate ceremony, CGC Adeniyi commissioned the Wale Adeniyi Sports Arena, describing it as a strategic investment in fitness, mental well-being, and community engagement.
“When we provide facilities like this, we are thinking about our officers and the community. Our work is demanding, and maintaining physical and mental fitness is essential,” Adeniyi said, urging officers across all commands to make full use of the arena.

Customs Area Controller of the Western Marine Command, Comptroller Patrick Ntadi, emphasised the importance of community partnerships in sustaining the project. “This facility belongs to the community. Its protection, proper use, and maintenance are a shared responsibility,” he said.
