Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has said that whoever succeeds him in office in 2031 will perform better than he does, expressing confidence that his administration is laying a strong and irreversible foundation for the state’s development, Prime Business Africa reports.
Governor Otti made the declaration on Sunday during a reception service organised in his honour by the Assemblies of God Church, Okaiuga–Nkwoegwu, in Umuahia North Local Government Area.
The governor said his administration was still at an early stage and that the period ahead marks a decisive phase of accelerated development for Abia State, adding that what he described as long-standing obstacles to the state’s progress had been dismantled.

“This is the season for aggressive development of Abia State. The curse that held us down has been broken. Whoever succeeds me will be better than me. Anyone thinking we are going back to the past is only dreaming,” he added.

Otti attributed his emergence as governor and the reforms underway in the state to divine timing, citing Psalms 62:11, which affirms that power belongs to God.
“You can do everything you want to do, but if it is not God’s time, it will not work. And when it is God’s time, even if you are sleeping, God will wake you up,” he said.
Responding to requests by the church leadership, the governor announced that the Assemblies of God Church would receive a Hummer bus for evangelism within the week, courtesy of businessman Prince Dr. Arthur Eze. He also directed his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Ph.D., to engage with the church to work out arrangements for the allocation of land for a proposed prayer camp.
The governor thanked churches across the state for their support of his administration and expressed appreciation to the Assemblies of God Church for organising the reception in his honour.
Earlier, the District Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Jerusalem District, Rev. Dr. Kenneth Ogbudu, described Governor Otti as a transformational leader whose emergence had redefined governance in Abia State.
He said the current administration represents a clear departure from past governments, citing competence, transparency, accountability and measurable impact.
According to him, the reconstruction of long-abandoned roads across Aba and other parts of the state has improved connectivity, eased transportation, stimulated commercial activity and restored public confidence.
Rev. Ogbudu also commended the administration for instituting fiscal discipline and prudent resource management, noting that the regular payment of salaries and pensions had restored dignity to workers and retirees.
“For the first time since the creation of Abia State, public funds are being managed with transparency and accountability,” he said, adding that the governor had shown courage in pursuing institutional reforms and strengthening governance structures.
Dignitaries at the event included the governor’s wife, Mrs. Priscilla Otti; the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha; the Deputy Speaker and members of the Abia State House of Assembly; the Chief of Staff to the Governor; commissioners, special advisers, senior special assistants and other top government officials.
