Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate and one-time Labour Party (LP) governorship aspirant, Oseloka Obaze, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking his return to partisan politics months after stepping aside over internal party disputes, Prime Business Africa reports.
Obaze, a close political ally of former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, confirmed his induction into the ADC, describing himself as a proud card-carrying member of the party. His decision comes about eight months after he publicly disengaged from partisan politics and distanced himself from the Labour Party on grounds of principle.
At the time, Obaze cited what he described as serious irregularities in the conduct of the Labour Party’s April 5 governorship primary election in Anambra State, arguing that the process fell short of basic standards of transparency and fairness. He also raised concerns over the party’s lingering national leadership crisis, marked by rival factions led by Julius Abure and Nenadi Usman, warning that the unresolved schism had eroded the party’s credibility.

I Remain Obidient, Peter Obi Supporter – Amb. Obaze
Obaze’s exit from the Labour Party followed his earlier departure from the PDP in 2022, just days before Peter Obi resigned from the party. He later emerged as Obi’s presidential placeholder in the Labour Party and went on to serve as campaign manager during the 2023 general election, playing a key role in shaping the strategy and messaging of the Obidient Movement.
With his move to the ADC, political observers say Obaze is positioning himself within a platform he considers more ideologically coherent and organisationally stable. His defection is expected to bolster the ADC’s profile, particularly in Anambra State and the wider South-East, where he commands significant political capital.
The development has also fuelled speculation within political circles that Obaze’s move could be preparatory to a broader realignment, including the possible future entry of Peter Obi into the ADC, although no such move has been officially confirmed.
In a post reflecting his renewed political engagement, Obaze wrote: “On this nation-building business, we move, we move and we keep moving until a New Nigeria that is Possible is achieved. Let’s get to work.”
As Nigeria gradually shifts focus toward the 2027 general elections, Obaze’s defection underscores a growing search among reform-minded politicians for alternative platforms outside the country’s dominant but crisis-prone parties.
