Amanze Chinonye
In a move to strengthen its leadership, the Nigerian Army has announced promotions for one hundred and five (105) senior officers.
The Army Council, at its meeting on Thursday, 27 November 2025, elevated 28 Brigadier Generals to the rank of Major General and 77 Colonels to Brigadier General.
Among those promoted to Major General are Brigadier Generals O. Adegbe of the Defence Intelligence Agency, S.M. Uba, Director of Defence Information, R.E. Hedima, Acting Chief of Military Intelligence Army, and R.T. Utsaha, Deputy Director of Defence Operations. Others include A.M. Umar, Commandant of the Warrant Officer Academy, S. Sulaiman, Deputy Military Secretary (Army), I.O. Bassey, Director of the Nigerian Army Operations Centre, and C.A. Ekeator of the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.

The promotion list also includes Brigadier Generals S.Y. Yakasai, Acting Director of Procurement in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff; W.L. Nzidee of Army Headquarters Department of Army Logistics; S.A. Emmanuel of the Nigerian Army Signals; S.S. Tilawan, Acting Commander of Sector 3 Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI; M.O. Agi, Desk Officer at the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Nigerian Defence Academy; I.M. Abbas, Commander of 34 Brigade; and the posthumously promoted Z.A. Saidu.
Officers elevated from Colonel to Brigadier General include Y. Ibrahim of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre Abuja, N.N. Gambo of Army headquarters Department of Civil Military Affairs, and A. Saidu of Headquarters Nigerian Army Finance Corps. Others promoted are A. Ali of Army Headquarters Garrison, I. Waziri of the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff, M.M. Sani of Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, A.A. Alkali of the Nigerian Army Dog Centre, and AO Ndah of Army Headquarters Department of Army Training, among many others serving across various operational, logistics, and medical units.
Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), felicitated with the newly promoted officers and their families, urging them to demonstrate exemplary leadership and inspire their subordinates. He emphasized the need for bold, innovative, and unconventional approaches to addressing evolving national security threats.
“The officers must uphold, without compromise, their sacred oath of allegiance to defend the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Loyalty to the Constitution must remain absolute, unwavering and beyond reproach,” the COAS stated.
The promotions reflect the Army’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its leadership and operational capacity in response to the nation’s security challenges.
