The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a landslide victory in the November 1 local government elections held across Niger State, securing all 25 chairmanship seats and 271 of the 274 councillorship positions.

The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC), in an official statement signed by its Commissioner for Operations, Barrister Mohammed Liman, confirmed the outcome late Monday night.

Liman said the commission conducted elections in all 25 local government areas in accordance with the state’s electoral law and operational guidelines, noting that all Returning Officers had concluded collation and declaration of results.

Liman further disclosed that Certificates of Return would be issued to all the elected chairmen and councillors as scheduled, with stakeholders to be notified accordingly.

“The Commission congratulates all elected officials and urges them to uphold transparency, accountability, and commitment to service delivery in their respective councils,” he said.

The NSIEC also commended security agencies, election observers, the media, political parties, and the electorate for their cooperation in ensuring a smooth and peaceful election process.

Over 10 political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), fielded candidates in the election.

The ruling APC’s sweeping victory further consolidates its dominance in Niger State, where it also controls the governorship and holds the majority of seats in the State House of Assembly.
