Nigerian Bourse Closes With N425bn Loss

The all-share index closed trading on Friday, August 15, with a 0.46 percent decline, dropping from the 145,300.01 ASI reported on Thursday, August 14, to settle at 144,628.2 ASI.

According to data published by the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), with the all-share index decreasing by 671.81 basis points, the equity capitalisation of the bourse fell by N425.04 billion.

This led to the market capitalisation declining from N91.92 trillion to N91.50 trillion.

Over 1.37 billion shares, valued at N13.92 billion, were traded in 32,065 deals at the end of trading activities, compared to the 2.45 billion shares exchanged in 43,515 deals, worth N22.21 billion the previous day.

Top five gainers

  • Mutual Benefits’ share price increased by N0.35 kobo, to rise from N3.50 kobo to N3.85 kobo per share.
  • Ikeja Hotel’s share value grew by N2.05, from N20.60 kobo to N22.65 kobo per share.
  • Wema Bank ended trading at N22.75 kobo per share, from N20.70 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N2.05.
  • Lotus Hal gained N8.38 kobo to end trading at N95.50 kobo, having opened with N87.12 kobo.
  • Deap Capital’s share value was up by N0.14 kobo, after closing at N1.61 kobo from N1.47 kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • Linkage Assurances share price depreciated by N0.27 kobo, dwindling from N2.70 kobo to N2.43 kobo per share.
  • International Energy Insurance recorded a N0.37 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N3.33 kobo after opening with N3.70 kobo per share.
  • Lasaco lost N0.45 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N4.05 kobo from N4.50 kobo per share.
  • NEM Insurance reported a decline of N3.60 kobo from the previous day’s share price of N36.10 kobo to end trading at N32.50 kobo per share.
  • Meyer Paint recorded a N1.85 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N16.75 kobo after opening with N18.60 kobo per share.

  • Universal Insurance reported that 308.80 million shares valued at N371.12 million were traded on its floor.
  • AIICO recorded 117.99 million shares valued at N470.65 million.
  • Mutual Benefits saw investors trade 102.41 million of its shares valued at N390.74 million.
  • Veritas Kapital recorded 70.42 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N160.03 million.
  • Sovereign Insurance reported that 62.15 million shares valued at N182.32 million were exchanged by investors.
