Nigerian Stock Market Cap Crosses N90trn As ASI Rises By 1.98%

The market capitalisation of the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) crossed N90 trillion on Monday, August 4, after the all-share index (ASI) appreciated by 1.98 percent at the end of trading.

According to data obtained from the NGX, the market capitalisation closed trading at N91.14 trillion, up by N1.77 trillion from N89.37 trillion recorded on Friday, August 1.

The all-share index also increased by 2,808.73 basis points, from 141,263.05 ASI to 144,071.78 ASI.

Over 811.09 million shares, valued at N19.47 billion, were traded in 35,963 deals, against the 1.07 billion shares exchanged in 34,488 deals, worth N26.85 billion, on Friday.

Top five gainers

  • UPDC’s share price increased by N0.54 kobo, to rise from N5.40 kobo to N5.94 kobo per share.
  • Royal Exchange’s share value grew by N0.15 kobo, from N1.50 kobo to N1.65 kobo per share.
  • Lasaco ended trading at N2.86 kobo per share, from N2.60 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N0.26 kobo.
  • UAC Nigeria gained N8.80 kobo to end trading at N97.10 kobo, having opened with N88.30 kobo.
  • Sovereign Insurance’s share value was up by N0.17 kobo, after closing at N1.88 kobo from N1.71 kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • Transcorp Power’s share price depreciated by N32, dwindling from N320 to N288 per share.
  • Academy recorded a N1.10 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N9.90 kobo after opening with N11 per share.
  • John Holt lost N0.70 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N6.60 kobo from N7.30 kobo per share.
  • Total reported a decline of N65 from the previous day’s share price of N705 to end trading at N640 per share.
  • Ecobank recorded a N3.45 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N34 after opening with N37.45 kobo per share.

Top five trading equities

  • FCMB reported that 84.94 million shares valued at N979.41 million were traded on its floor.
  • Universal Insurance recorded 82.51 million shares valued at N61.68 million.
  • Fidelity Bank saw investors trade 45.42 million of its shares valued at N955.59 million.
  • AIICO recorded 40.14 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N94.29 million.
  • Veritas Kapital reported 39.76 million shares valued at N60.25 million were exchanged by investors.
