Amanze ChinonyePresident Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned businessman and elder statesman, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, who passed away in the early hours of Saturday at the age of 94.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the late Dantata as a monumental national loss, praising his decades-long contributions to Nigeria’s economic development, philanthropy, and public service.
Join our WhatsApp Channel“With the death of Alhaji Dantata today, we lost a prominent business mogul, patriot, and elder statesman who contributed significantly to the growth and development of our nation,” Tinubu said.
Dantata, a highly respected figure in Nigeria’s business and philanthropic circles, was known for his substantial investments in commerce and industry. He also held key public service roles, including serving as Commissioner for Planning and Development in the old Kano State.

President Tinubu highlighted the late business magnate’s commitment to education and healthcare, noting that his “public-spirited philanthropy touched countless lives.” The President also recalled their personal relationship, describing Dantata’s advice and support over the years as “deeply encouraging and beneficial.”
“Alhaji Dantata will be remembered for his industry, diligence, steadfastness, and great commitment to national unity through his many business ventures and philanthropic activities,” Tinubu added.
The President extended his condolences to the Dantata family, as well as to the government and people of Kano State, mourning the passing of what he called “an illustrious son of Nigeria.”
