Izuchukwu OkosiThe Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is expected to submit Super Falcons’ provisional squad for the 2024 Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in the coming days, reports Prime Business Africa.
The list of players for the provisional squad has been handed to the football ruling body in Nigeria by head coach Justin Madugu.

There have been 12 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations since the Confederation of African Football started staging the tournament in 1998 with Nigeria the most decorated team on the continent.
The Super Falcons were the first women’s national team in Africa to represent the continent at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 1991 when China hosted the tournament.
They were also the sole African side at the 1995 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The WAFCON had not yet been established as a tournament in the 90s.
“We are committed to fully supporting the Super Falcons’ campaign for a 10th continental title. That is why we are launching the Mission X campaign—to sensitise football-loving Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, young and old, from all walks of life, to come out and support the team,” said NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, speaking from the United States.
Sanusi added that the federation is confident in the team’s ability to reclaim their crown in Morocco, having last won the tournament in 2018.
The Super Falcons are expected to travel to Portugal for their camping ahead of the tournament next month.
Crucially, the Falcons are billed to face Portugal in an international friendly.
The highly anticipated game against the Portuguese women’s national team—who are also preparing for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025—will serve as a crucial test for the nine-time African champions ahead of the continental showpiece.
