World record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan and Nigeria’s Shot Putter, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, will both miss the 2025 Diamond League in Stockholm, Sweden.

The men’s Shot Put event is not scheduled to be held at the meeting.

As at the time of this report, no further statement has been made by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) over their absence.

The Stockholm Olympic Stadium is poised to host a strong field of international athletes ahead of the World Athletics Championship set to take place in Tokyo, Japan in September.

Meanwhile, Tonobok Okowa has been re-elected as President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) at the Elective Congress held in Abuja.

Okowa has served as President since 2021 and saw his re-election sealed after all other contenders for the position either withdrew or failed to progress through the zonal stages of the election.

Retired Commodore Omatseye Nesiama, a former Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence, stepped down before the final vote.

Constantine Itiako Ikpokpo, popularly known as Malik, lost at the South-South Zonal election to former sprinter Gabriel Okon.

Sunday Adeleye was eliminated in the North-West Zonal election by Ladan Abubakar Zurmi, who has now been elected as the AFN’s First Vice President.

Akuchukwu Aghazu Chineze emerged as the second vice president.
