African School Games: ANOCA Rules Out Participation Fees

Reprieve has come the way of participants at the African School Games, an Initiative of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) in partnership with with the International Federation, the Union of African Olympics Sports Confederations (CASOL) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as they have been exempted from participation fees.

The cheering news was announced by the Algerian Minister of Sports, Walid Sadi.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently made it’s first appointment of an African which was met with widespread agreement.

The Committee’s goal is geared towards ensuring that the conveyor belt of talents are continually discovered and nurtured around the world.

In Africa, most children with talents in sports have either forsaken their gifts due to socioeconomic reasons or war in certain parts of the continent.

Sadi’s announcement was welcomed with great joy by the 51 participating countries who see the move as very important gesture of solidarity from Algeria.

Prime Business Africa furthered gathered that facilities are currently being studied for airlift participating teams.

The initiative to create the 1st African School Games by ANOCA under the aegis of the IOC is felt to be of greater interest for the development of African Youth and the preservation of the enormous potential that the continent contains.

The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) is an international organization based in Abuja, Nigeria, which brings together the fifty-four African National Olympic Committees.

ANOCA was founded on June 28, 1981 in Lomé by Anani Matthia and Juan Antonio Samaranch with the help of Ydnekatchew Tessema.

It was then called the Pan-African Olympic Institution at the service of sport, youth, human development and the promotion of Olympic values.

The ANOCA have an Executive Committee, the governing body of ACNOA, consisting of a President, four Vice-Presidents, two General Secretaries, seven Area Representatives and three Athlete Representatives.
