2027: Peter Obi’s Strong Ally Quits Labour Party

May 5, 2025

Oseloka Obaze, a strong supporter of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Mr Peter Obi, has resigned his membership of the party.

Obaze, a former United Nations Diplomat, made this known in a letter addressed to the Labour Party Chairman in the Ochuche Ward 406 in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

On his decision to quit, Obaze said it was to express his disapproval and protest the conduct of the April 5 governorship primary election of the party in Anambra.

“The processes, conduct and outcome of the Labour Party governorship primaries held on April 5, 2025 in Awka, were fraught with outright irregularities, bothering on fraud and criminality,” Obaze stated.

According to him, what transpired during the electoral exercise violates provisions of the party’s constitution and principles of democracy.

“As such, I hereby disassociate myself henceforth from the Labour Party,” he said.

He also mentioned the Labour Party’s national leadership crisis and failure of the leaders to harmonise or reconcile the Julius Abure and Senator Nenadi Usman factions.

It would be recalled that the veteran diplomat served as Secretary to the Anambra State Government (SSG) under Peter Obi and Willie Obiano administrations between 2012 and 2015.

He worked closely with the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 presidential poll as campaign manager.

Obaze contested for the governorship of Anambra State under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in 2013 but couldn’t succeed in winning the party ticket. He subsequently contested under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and emerged the party’s governorship flagbearer in the 2017 election that was won by Obiano.
