Nigerian Govt Declares Thursday Public Holiday For Workers’ Day

The Nigerian government has declared Thursday, May 1, a public holiday to mark this year’s Workers’ Day. Minister of Interior, Olubumi Tunji-Ojo, declared the public holiday in a statement released on Tuesday.

Tunji-Ojo applauded Nigerian workers for their commitment and hard work, acknowledging that their efforts have contributed to the nation’s development both domestically and internationally.

The minister who urged workers to embrace a culture of creativity and production reiterated the necessity for peace to drive industrialisation and economic growth.

“There is dignity in labour; the dedication and commitment to the work we do is vital to nation-building.

“This administration is fully committed to the security of life and property of every citizen and foreigner in the country,” the minister stated.He assured that the current administration of President Bola Tinubu is committed to fulfilling the Renewed Hope Agenda he promised and urged Nigerians to maintain hope while wishing workers a joyful celebration.

The minister also called on workers to improve their work, pointing out that doing so would enhance governance and allow citizens to take full advantage of the country’s wealth and resources.
