The pipeline project is expected to have a significant impact on the region, with city gates planned for Onitsha and Awka.

Spur lines from the trunkline will service industrial estates in Onitsha, Nnewi, Awka, and other areas, potentially generating interest in other enterprises that would get distribution franchises from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

The project is seen as a game-changer for the state, and a group has been called upon to assist in identifying stakeholders and offtakers. The pipeline’s trunkline can be extended to other areas depending on the offtakers’ demand, making it a vital infrastructure project for the region’s economic development. Updates on the project will be provided in the coming days.

“The planned supply of pipeline gas has been a major setback in the quest for the state to have GENCOs who could run mini-grids. With the signing of the State Electricity Law by the government of Prof. Charles C Soludo, CFR, the process of our energy sufficiency has just begun,” said Engr. Ikechukwu G Okafor, FIOGR, the Special Assistant to the Governor of Anambra State on Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
