Plateau Killings: Obi Donates N7.5m To Victims, Condemns Attack

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Mr Peter Obi, has donated N7.5 million to victims of the recent killings in Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.

Obi made the donation when he visited the area on Sunday.

In a statement via his X handle, Obi said the donation was a continuation of his financial support to the area. He emphasised that the financial support is to help in providing facilities for children displaced by the attack.

“Earlier, the Obidient Movement had built a borehole to provide clean water for the IDP camp and the community, and we continued the support yesterday with the sum of 7.5 million naira to help in providing facilities for the displaced children, provide continuous education and ongoing needs of those affected,” Obi stated.

The former Anambra State governor, who spent some time with the victims and displaced children in the Bokkos area after visiting the state governor, Caleb Mutfwang, in Jos, condemned the killings, saying: “What has happened in these communities is very saddening and utterly unacceptable.”

“Nigerians should not be killed or forced to flee their homes when we are not at war. Every life is precious, and no Nigerian, regardless of where they live, should have to live in fear or uncertainty.”

He expressed condolences to the families and communities who have suffered tragic losses due to the horrific attack.

While stressing the need for compassionate leadership in managing the crisis, Obi expressed his solidarity with the people of Plateau State, adding that he remains committed to supporting all efforts toward peace, justice, and healing.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed to rest in perfect peace, and for the “people to find strength, comfort, and unity as they rebuild their lives.”
